Welcome to the Hotel Gomagoierhof!

Your ideal starting point in the Stelvio National Park
Our family-run hotel is located on the site of the oldest farm in the village of Gomagoi, near Stelvio, directly on the legendary pass road to the Stelvio Pass. A great love for sheep

Your host Georg Ellmer has a very peculiar passion: he breeds sheep, especially Jura sheep – a robust and modest mountain sheep, that originally comes from Switzerland. Georg owns around 20 sheep, ten of which are ewes. Especially children enjoy the sight of these cuddly animals, that are brought in the stable right next to the Hotel Gomagoierhof in winter. From mid-May to mid-October, however, the sheep enjoy the “summer freshness” on a meadow, in the wonderful Ortles region. Sheep breeding is a hobby that Georg has been pursuing for all his life. The contact with the peaceful animals is a great reward for his work and lets him find his peace, although the animals are also quite demanding: the daily feeding, the attentive care and the hay work cost time and energy. With his breeding sheep, Georg participates to exhibitions of small animal breeders in South Tyrol and Austria. And they succeed: his Jura sheep have repeatedly ranked among the top and received prizes. Sheep are also an excellent source of meat. Their fine meat is prepared exclusively by Georg himself for the guests of the Gomagoierhof. Knowing where it comes from is indeed a very important aspect for the passionate cook. Only if it is produced regionally and is of high quality can it be healthy and good. The wool from Georg's sheep, on the other hand, is processed and transformed by regional workshops into slippers or hats.

Sports on the road in the Stelvio National Park

The unique natural landscape around the Stelvio National Park invites all year round to very particular leisure activities. Hiking, mountain biking, skiing on the glacier skiing area or a motorbike tour on the Stelvio Pass: unforgettable holiday memories are guaranteed!
Ortler

Around Mount Ortles

“King Ortles”, with a height of 3,905 m, is the highest mount in the Eastern Alps. The majestic mountain attracts experienced mountain climbers with a unique peak. But the many three-thousand-meter peaks around Mount Ortles offer lasting mountaineering moments, too. For those who like it easier, many alpine pasture hikes and the “Waalwege” valley trails, typical of the Venosta Valley, bring to the destination with less effort.
Sking in Val Venosta

Skiing in Solda – from a height where snow is guaranteed

Skiing on the glacier skiing area of Solda, on Mount Ortles, is a unique experience. The slopes, where snow is assured, extend up to 3,000 m above sea level, and include a magnificent panoramic view. Ski fans, free riders, snowboarders, and ski tourers can look forward to a great sports adventure – from the end of October to the beginning of May. Before our hotel there is the bus stop, from where the free ski bus will take you to Solda or Trafoi (10 km away).
Skiing with kids

Skiing for families in Trafoi

At the skiing area of Trafoi, families feel they are in the right place. Beginners and experienced skiers can enjoy a leisurely descent here. The ski lift, which takes you up to the family-friendly slopes, starts directly in the village centre. When you reach the top, a wonderful panorama of the Ortles awaits you at the Rifugio Forcola.
Stelvioroad

Panoramic tour on the Stelvio Pass – one of the highest pass roads in Europe

Whether by motorcycle, racing bicycle or car, the tour on the Stelvio Pass is unforgettable in any case! One of the highest pass roads in Europe curls in 48 hairpin bends to the pass at 2,757 metres above sea level. The panoramic road unites South Tyrol and Lombardy and offers a fantastic view of the mountains. By the way, on the car-free Stelvio Bike Day, the road belongs to the cyclists only.
Bike Passo Stelvio

Hiking and biking in the Stelvio National Park

The Stelvio National Park is one of the largest nature reserves in Europe. The high alpine landscape offers hiking trails, summit hikes and vie ferrate (protected climbing routes) for every demand. From easy to challenging, everybody can find their own mountain adventure within the spectacular landscape.

Submerge in art, culture and history

Medieval villages, fascinating hamlets, and impressive monasteries: in the Upper Venosta Valley there are many cultural highlights to discover. They tell stories about ancient knights – as well as of daring kite surfers. Let’s go on a discovery tour!
Churburg Schuderns

Coira Castle in Sluderno

Coira Castle majestically towers over the village of Sluderno. The best-preserved castle plant is well-known because of its armoury, which is the biggest in the world and contains swords, thrust weapons and armours. Some of them weigh more than 50 kg and are over 2 m high. But there are also many exciting treasures to be found in the other magnificent rooms.
Marienberg monastery Burgusio

Marienberg Abbey

The Marienberg Abbey is a place of peace and strength. The museum of the highest Benedictine abbey in Europe provides exciting insights into the monastic life of the monks. The film about the Romanesque representations of angels in the crypt – which can be visited at particular times – is interesting, too.
Reschensee

Lake Resia

Who doesn’t know the steeple towering from the Lake in Curon? Lake Resia has a lot more to offer, though. A pleasant cycling and hiking path surrounds the lake, with a beautiful view of Mals Heath and Mount Ortles. Sailors and kiters love the wind in the Venosta Valley, letting them glide on the water surface.
Glurns

Glorenza

Glorenza enchants with its medieval atmosphere, the completely preserved ring walls and the picturesque gate towers. The smallest city in South Tyrol has a lot to offer – you can leisurely stroll through the arbours, enjoy the atmosphere or visit one of the local markets.
